DEVOTIONAL

Spiritual growth is not automatic, it is intentional. Just as a child must eat, learn, and develop to become mature, so must every believer take responsibility for their spiritual advancement.

God desires growth, not stagnation. The tragedy in the body of Christ today is not the absence of potential, but the neglect of growth. The Scripture makes it clear in Galatians 4:1-2 (KJV)

“Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.”

This means that even though you are an heir of God, your experience in life will remain limited if you refuse to grow. Growth is what transitions you from promise to possession.

Spiritual growth is your responsibility. No one can pray enough on your behalf to make you grow if you refuse to engage. No one can study the Word for you and transfer maturity into your spirit. Growth comes through consistent personal engagement with God.

5 Biblical ways to grow up spiritually.
Here are biblical steps to grow spiritually:

1. Consistent Study of the Word

The Bible in 1 Peter 2:2 (KJV), says, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”

Growth is tied to your appetite for the Word. The Word is not optional; it is your spiritual food.  A believer who neglects the Word will remain spiritually weak, confused, and unstable.

2. A Vibrant Prayer Life

Here is a reminder, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,” Jude 1:20 (KJV)

Prayer is how you build spiritual stamina. It strengthens your inner man and aligns you with God’s will. Without prayer, your spiritual life becomes powerless and dry.

3. Obedience to God’s Word

James 1:22 says, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

Growth is not just hearing, it is doing. Every act of obedience stretches your spiritual capacity. Disobedience, on the other hand, stunts growth.

4. Fellowship with the Holy Spirit

The Bible in 2 Corinthians 13:14 (KJV) says , “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.”

The Holy Spirit is your teacher and guide. Growth becomes easy when you maintain daily fellowship with Him. He corrects, instructs, and strengthens you.

5. Fellowship with Other Believers

Hebrews 10:25 (KJV) “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another…”

You grow faster in the company of believers, this means that isolation weakens, but fellowship strengthens.  However, we must understand that God designed growth to happen in community. In the middle of this truth, remember this powerful insight

The words of Kenneth E. Hagin,

Growth is not a gift, it is a decision you make daily.

Spiritual maturity is not measured by how long you have been in church, but by how much you have grown in Christ. God expects progress, He desires our growth, He expects transformation. In Ephesians 4:15 (KJV) we are cautioned:  “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:”

You are called to grow into Christ, not remain a spiritual infant.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

1. Are you actively seeking the hidden riches God has stored for you?

2. How consistent are you in your personal walk with God daily?
