DEVOTIONAL
There is a difference between having a job and finding your life work. A job may pay your bills, but your life work gives meaning to your days. A job can be something you do; a calling is something you were sent to do. You can receive a salary every month and still feel something missing in your soul because deep within you, you know there is more to your life than earning a living.
God did not create you merely to occupy space, grow older, pay bills, and eventually leave the earth. There is something He designed you to contribute. Before Jeremiah ever stood before nations, God told him, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee” (Jeremiah 1:5).

Your assignment did not begin when you discovered it. It began in the heart of God before you discovered yourself.
Finding your life work brings a peculiar kind of joy. It is the satisfaction of knowing, “This is what I was made for.” Think about a musician who can spend hours rehearsing without feeling cheated of time, or a teacher who becomes alive when helping a struggling child understand.
There is something deeply satisfying when your gifts, burdens, convictions, and opportunities begin pointing in the same direction. Jesus said, “My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work” (John 4:34).
Purpose can feed the soul in ways money cannot.

You were made by God and for God, and until you understand that, life will never make sense.
Your calling may not initially look spectacular. Moses had a shepherd's staff. David had a shepherd's field. Dorcas had a needle and a heart for people. Paul had a burden for the nations.
The issue is not whether your work looks impressive; the question is whether it is faithful to what God has placed within you. Colossians 3:23 says, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
Do not spend your whole life copying another person's assignment. Ask God to reveal yours. Pay attention to what burdens you, what you are gifted to do, what consistently brings value to others, and where your heart finds holy satisfaction. Your life work may become your ministry, your business, your writing, your teaching, your craft, your service, or a combination of these.

When you find what God has called you to do, work stops being merely a means of survival and becomes an expression of obedience.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. Am I merely pursuing a job, or am I intentionally discovering the work God created me to accomplish?
2. What gifts, burdens, and recurring opportunities might be pointing me toward my life work?
3. If money and people's applause were removed, what meaningful work would I still feel compelled to do?
PRAYER KEY POINTS
Father, IJN: Open my eyes to understand the work You created me to accomplish. Let me not live and die without fulfilling my assignment.
Father, IJN: Help me recognize my gifts, develop them faithfully, and use them to bless people and advance Your purpose.
Father, IJN: Give me courage to leave comparison behind and faithfully walk in the unique calling You have prepared for me. Amen.

Take 30 minutes today and write down three things you are naturally gifted at, three things that deeply burden your heart, and three ways people are already helped by you. Pray over the list and ask God to show you the intersection between your gifts and His purpose.
The place God has called you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet.
