DEVOTIONAL

One of the greatest battles in life is not money, not opportunity, not even relationships, it is identity. When a man does not know who he is, he becomes vulnerable to anything. He will accept labels, limitations, and definitions from the world because he has none from within.

Many people are alive, but only a few truly know themselves. Even among believers, there is a quiet struggle, low self-worth, confusion, comparison, and a life below divine potential. Why? Because identity has not been settled.

A young man once inherited a vast estate from his father, but because he never opened the will, he lived like a beggar—struggling, borrowing, and doubting himself. Meanwhile, everything he needed was already his. His problem was not lack - it was ignorance.

That is the condition of many believers today. However, you cannot answer the question “Who am I?” until you first answer “Where am I from?”

The Bible makes it clear, you are not just from your earthly parents. There is a deeper origin. John 1:12-13 (KJV) says: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

If you are born of God, then your identity is rooted in God - not in your past, not in your background, not in your circumstances. This changes everything. You are not who people say you are. You are not even who your past says you are. You are who God says you are.

1 Peter 2:9 (KJV) declares: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”

Chosen. Royal. Holy. Peculiar. That is your identity in Christ.

The words of Dr. Myles Munroe,

When you don’t know who you are, you will live below what God has made you.

Therefore, identity is not discovered in the mirror of the world, it is revealed in the mirror of the Word. The Word of God shows you your true nature, your worth, and your purpose.

Know that without this revelation:

  • You will compare yourself with others
  • You will live by approval instead of purpose
  • You will settle for less than God designed

But when you know who you are:

  • You walk in confidence, not arrogance
  • You live with purpose, not confusion
  • You stand firm, regardless of circumstances

Beloved! Your identity is not something you create, it is something you discover in Christ.

So, who are you?

  • You are born of God.
  • You are a new creation.
  • You are a carrier of divine life.
  • You are God’s workmanship.

But, until this becomes your consciousness, life will remain a struggle of trying to become what you already are.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

1. Are you defining yourself based on your past or based on God’s Word?

2. How are you intentionally discovering your identity in Christ daily?

3. What or why is still causing you to doubt who God says you are?

PRAYER KEY POINTS

Father, IJN: Thank You for revealing my true identity in Christ and for making me a new creation.

Father, IJN: Help me to walk daily in the consciousness of who I am in You, and not be limited by past experiences or human opinions.

Father, IJN: Open my understanding to continually see myself as You see me, and to live boldly in my divine identity.

COMMIT TO MEMORY

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 (KJV)
