Man Has Triune Nature!

Scripture Text: “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL

One of the greatest revelations every believer must come into is the understanding of who he truly is. Many live below their divine capacity because they only recognize the outward man; the body, while neglecting the deeper realities within.

But the Word of God in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, makes it clear: man is a triune being—spirit, soul, and body. You are not a body trying to connect with God; you are a spirit, created in the image of God, living in a body and expressing yourself through your soul.

Until this truth settles in your heart, you may continue to struggle with identity, purpose, and spiritual authority.

Man is not just what you see. The physical body is only the outer shell, the least of the three dimensions that make up your being. Many believers struggle, not because God has not deposited greatness in them, but because they lack understanding of how they are designed to function.

The Word of God reveals clearly that man is a spirit, has a soul, and lives in a body. Until you understand this, you may continue to live below your divine capacity.

The Bible says: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit…” Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

This shows clearly that the spirit and soul are distinct, and God’s Word is able to separate and reveal their operations.

Let us examine these three dimensions:

1. THE SPIRIT (The Real You)

Your spirit is the core of your being. It is the part of you that is born again and connects directly with God.

John 3:6 (KJV) says: “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” When you receive Christ, your spirit is recreated. It becomes alive unto God, capable of fellowship, discernment, and divine communication.

The spirit of man is designed to:

  • Fellowship with God
  • Receive revelation
  • Carry the life and nature of God

Proverbs 20:27 (KJV) says: “The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.”

Your spirit is how God leads you. It is fed through the Word, prayer, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

As Watchman Nee taught: the spirit is the organ for God-consciousness. Without developing your spirit, you will live a shallow Christian life.

2. THE SOUL (The Seat of Your Personality)

Your soul consists of your mind, will, and emotions. It is the center of your thoughts, decisions, and feelings.

Romans 12:2 (KJV) cautions: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”. This shows that transformation happens in the soul, particularly the mind.

The soul is responsible for:

  • Thinking (mind)
  • Choosing (will)
  • Feeling (emotions)

Your spirit may be born again, but your soul must be renewed daily. A renewed soul aligns with God’s will, while an unrenewed soul will resist spiritual growth.

3. THE BODY (The Earth Suit)

Your body is the physical structure that gives you access to the earth. It is not evil, but it must be disciplined and brought under control.

Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV) reminds the Church: “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection…”

The body is designed to:

  • Execute actions
  • Express what is within
  • Carry out God’s will on earth

However, if not controlled, it can become a tool for sin.

Romans 8:13 (KJV) says: “For if j shall live.”  Your body must be yielded to God as an instrument of righteousness.

In the midst of this truth, hear this:

The words of Kenneth E. Hagin,

Man is a spirit, he has a soul, and he lives in a body.

This understanding changes everything. You stop living by appearance and begin to live by divine design. You are not ordinary. You carry the life of God.

Isaiah 8:18 (KJV) declares: “Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel…”

When your spirit is alive, your soul renewed, and your body disciplined, you become a wonder in your world.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

1. Are you actively seeking the hidden riches God has stored for you?

2. How well are you nurturing your spirit, soul, and body daily?

3. What part of your life is currently out of alignment with God’s design, and why?

PRAYER KEY POINTS

Father, IJN: Help me to live consciously of my true identity. Strengthen my spirit to stay connected to You, renew my soul daily by Your Word, and empower me to discipline my body to be an instrument of righteousness.
