DEVOTIONAL

THE HOLY Bible is the greatest Book I have ever known, and in history, I don’t know any other book by the caption; “The greatest book” but the Holy Bible, I also refer to it as, “The Wisdom Book”. It clearly shows us God’s plans and purposes, and the reason for every creature, it teaches and shows us the path of life and destiny.

No man has seen God before, not even the greatest of the Prophets, the likes of Moses, Elijah, and Jeremiah, aside from the Son of man - Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, who came down from heaven!

You have to know that God is His word and that His word is Him, He manifests or reveals Himself to us by His word.

This is how we see God, for instance, Samuel a great prophet in his time, we were made to know from the scriptures that he encountered God by His word, 1 Samuel 3:21 says, And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD” Samuel did not encounter God in a vision, or some sort of other dimension like a voice in the fire! But God's word was revealed to Samuel.

This simply tells us how crucial and powerful words can be. The Bible says in John 1:3, “All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made”

The Bible teaches your innermost being; your mind the ways and character of God, John here is reminding us about the creative ability of words, good or bad, words have power, a creative force that makes it happen, whether blessing or cursing.

It is important we realize that our situations, in most cases, no matter how terrible and severe, that most people, even among brethren in the body of Christ are facing at the moment, might have been created by their words in the past, Words are spiritual seeds, words spoken gives life to things. Life and death are in the power of the tongue.

The Psalmist also cautions the believers on this matter of careless speech, “what man is he that desireth life and loveth many days, that he may see good? keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile” - Psalms 34:12-13.

Simply put longevity, a good life, and the varied blessings we hope to see are possible by our words either said in our prayers to God or in our beliefs. The 14th verse of the above Scripture, says, “depart from evil and do good, speak peace and pursue it”. Keep thy lips away from speaking evil if you don’t desire evil, remember life is a seed, in the same way, your words are seeds, when you speak you are sowing into your life, either for good or bad.

The Way to Speak

There is a way to speak that attracts good and blessings. The scripture text says, “For my mouth shall speak the truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips”. Words gives life to attitude, wickedness came as a seed of the word, nurtured in the heart, and became an attitude and a character, watch out on what you hear

So, is It possible to tame the tongue? Well I don’t think so, it is a NO! The scripture describes the tongue as a small organ but a very powerful weapon, but as redeemed we now have a regenerated spirit in salvation, but not our minds, remember out of the minds are issues of life (see Proverbs 4:23), and our world is transformed by the words we hear and speak (see Rom.12:2), your word is a function of your thought.

What you feed yourself will ultimately determine what you produce, to “tame” our tongue or to speak rightly, we must allow our minds to be informed and transformed by the Word of God. The Bible says, "My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways."

your mind is renewed only with His word, which leads to your transformation, because your speech is changed from wrong to right, evil to good, God’s word shines light in our minds, when we let it into our hearts. "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple." - Psalms 119:130

The spirit of faith comes alive from within us, when we essentially allow the word, “the word of faith” to take hold in of our hearts, which changes our attitude and character, our speech and perceptions changes, you begin to see things the way God sees them; with love that works by faith!

You can see how by the word one is transformed to see and speak as God, and to inherit God’s order of faith for a supernatural life. Because we only speak what we hear and believe, and what we believe also becomes our behavior, this behavior consequently forms our life.

So, to change your world, you must change your word. Let the lens through which you view life be a positive one.

Beloved! From today start giving life to your destiny by speaking the right words only.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

1. What words have you spoken this week that either honored God or dishonored others?

2. Why does God care so much about the words you speak, and how does guarding your lips protect your witness for Christ?

3. How can you practically surrender your speech to the Holy Spirit today, so that your words bring life, truth, and encouragement instead of harm?
