Scripture Text: “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:14–15 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL
Calvary was not just a place of sacrifice, it was a place of victory, a legal and eternal overthrow of darkness. What Adam lost through disobedience, Jesus Christ restored through obedience. The Cross was the battlefield where Satan’s claim over the earth was broken, his authority stripped, and his dominion shattered.

When Adam sinned, he handed over the dominion God had given him. Romans 5:12 (KJV) declares, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin…”
Through that act, Satan became the “god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4 KJV), not by creation, but by usurpation (operating through sin, lust, and pride) as seen in 1 John 2:16 (KJV).
But hear this clearly - Satan was never at any point crowned king, he was only called a prince. A prince has influence, but not ultimate authority. Jesus is King.
Then came the turning point. Jesus said in John 12:31–32 (KJV), “Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”
That “lifting up” was the Cross. That was the day Satan lost the earth.
At Calvary, Jesus did not negotiate, He triumphed. Hebrews 2:14 (KJV) says, “…that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.” The word “destroy” here means to render powerless. Satan was stripped of his legal hold.
The words of Billy Graham,
Satan’s greatest defeat was not when he was cast out of heaven, but when Jesus rose from the grave.
Beloved, this is where many miss it: Yes, Satan is still called a prince, but he is now a defeated prince. His power is broken, and his authority nullified. His throne is gone. Colossians 1:13 (KJV) says, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”
You are no longer under his jurisdiction. Ephesians 2:6 (KJV) declares, “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” You are not trying to rise, you are already seated. And where are you seated? Far above all principalities and powers.

Romans 16:20 (KJV) seals it, “And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly…” Not beside you - under you. Jesus affirmed in Matthew 28:18 (KJV): “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” And this authority has been delegated to us as His body.
So Child of God understand this:
Satan has no throne - you do.
He was cast down - you were raised up.
He lost the earth - you were restored to reign.
The only power he appears to have is the power you unknowingly permit through ignorance. But when you walk in the consciousness of the finished work, you enforce his defeat daily.
Beloved! You don’t bow to a defeated prince. He bows to the King in you.
POINTS OF REFLECTION
1. Are you living with the consciousness that Satan is already defeated?
2. How are you exercising your authority in Christ over the works of darkness?
3. What lies has the enemy used to make you forget your position in Christ?
