Scripture Text:  "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen." - 2 Peter 3:18 (KJV)

Our saviour Jesus Christ in several meetings with the Pharisees and scribes, who sought ways to either ridicule or get him trapped, reminded us of how crucial the knowledge of the Word is to life.

"Knowledge of the Word sets free"

Our journey of faith as followers of Christ is certainly a lifelong goal of learning and experiencing the depth of who Jesus is.

This is why the call for us to "grow in the knowledge of Christ" is not merely a suggestion but a vital aspect of our spiritual development. It is an invitation to delve deeper into the eternal riches of His character, His teachings, and His love.

Firstly, we ought to know that to grow in the understanding of our lord Jesus Christ requires intentionality. It is not enough that we just passively absorb information about Jesus; instead as followers, we must actively seek to cultivate a deeper understanding of Him. This is an admonition from the Word we should need:

"And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified." - Acts 20:32 (KJV)

This involves our regular engagement with Scripture, prayerful reflection, and a willingness to allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate the truths of God's Word in our hearts.

Secondly, to deepen your knowledge of Christ would involve a personal encounter with Him. It is beyond just acquiring intellectual knowledge; but about developing a relationship with the living God.

Just as we come to know most of our friends through spending time with them and sharing our lives, in the same manner, we also come to know Jesus through communing with Him in prayer, worship, and fellowship. "And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;" - Philippians 1:9 (KJV)

Thirdly, when we grow in the knowledge of Christ it leads to our transformation. This means the more we understand who Jesus is and what He has done for us, the more we are changed to reflect His image. "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." -  2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV)

Also, as we keep meditating on His teachings,  example, and sacrifice, we will be compelled to align our lives with His will and purposes.

Fourthly, deepening our knowledge of Christ as a believer will foster a greater sense of awe and reverence for Him. This means the more we know His depth of love, the magnitude of His grace, and the majesty of His sovereignty.

The more our hearts are filled with adoration and praise. "For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh." -Philippians 3:3 (KJV)

Consequently, our worship of Him will become more genuine and our devotion more fervent as we grow in understanding of the One who is worthy of all honor and glory.

Beloved! Today, you should  heed the exhortation of 2 Peter 3:18 to "grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."

You should commit yourself to a lifelong pursuit of knowing Jesus more deeply, loving Him more passionately, and following Him more faithfully.

My prayer is that your life becomes a testament to the surpassing greatness of the One who has called you into fellowship with Himself.
