Scripture Text: “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” – 1 John 5:4 (KJV)
One of the greatest dangers a believer can face is allowing fear and unbelief to take root in their heart. I have always known that fear is the enemy’s weapon of bondage.
Yes, because, when faith is absent, the believer becomes vulnerable, open to defeat, and at risk of losing out on the glorious inheritance in Christ.
Many saints have fallen short of God’s promises, not because He failed, but because they did not exercise the God-kind of faith at work in Christ, which he has also given to us - The Church.
The Bible makes it clear that when we became born again, we were not born of flesh, blood, or man’s will, but of God Himself (John 1:13, KJV).
This means His very nature resides in us. As God’s offspring, we carry His life, His Spirit, and His ability. And since “the just shall live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4, KJV), faith becomes the lifeline of our existence in Him. Without it, the enemy can easily cripple what we have labored for.
But note this: we do not need ordinary faith; we need the God-kind of faith—the faith that speaks to mountains and expects them to move, the faith that dominates fear and impossibilities. Jesus revealed this in Mark 11:22–23, “Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”
Faith is not passive, it is rather active, bold, and commanding. Jesus has already given us authority in Luke 10:19 to trample on serpents, scorpions, and all the power of the enemy. That authority can only be exercised by the God-kind of faith.
So, when fear whispers to you, that it cannot be done, faith declares that with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26, KJV).
The Words of Martin Luther King Jr.:
Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.
But how can a believer exercise this God-kind of faith that has been given to us in Christ?
Here's how believers can exercise the God Kind of Faith at work in Christ:
1. Speaking the Word of God with Boldness
Faith is voice-activated. The Word in your heart must become the Word on your lips. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (Proverbs 18:21, KJV).
Speak only what God has said, even when circumstances contradict.
2. Refuse Fear or Doubt
Just as light and darkness has nothing in common, same way Faith and fear cannot co-exist. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7, KJV).
So, the God-kind of faith silences fear and chooses trust even in uncertainty. Just as Light has instant and absolute power over darkness.
3. Act on the Word in Obedience
Faith is not only believing the Word of God, it is also acting. Abraham did not just believe God; he obeyed and moved (Genesis 12:1–4, KJV).
Therefore, the God’s kind of faith produces corresponding actions that align with His promises.
4. Persevering Until Manifestation
God doesn't give up when times are difficult or in challenging moments. In the beginning we were told of the chaotic nature of the earth.
But God still was hopeful of a good state, He then spoke up and the earth took shape and there was beauty. The God’s kind of faith does not give up.
It is persistent, patient, and unyielding. “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.” (Hebrews 10:35, KJV).
You must learn to hold on until the promise becomes reality.
POINTS OF REFLECTION
1. Am I exercising faith with boldness or allowing fear to silence me?
2. Do I act on God’s Word immediately, or do I delay because of doubt?
3. Am I persevering in faith even when the answers seem delayed?
